Appointments

On Saturday mornings, we are available in the office only for emergency sick/injury visits, not for well check-ups or vaccinations. We start taking calls for these emergency Saturday appointments at 9 AM.

Please call during office hours to set up appointments or to speak with our staff.

We have expanded availability for EVENING APPOINTMENTS (both for sick/injury visits and for well-visits/check-ups) 4 week-nights per week. If you need an evening appointment, please discuss this with our staff while scheduling your appointment.

Answering Service

After-Hours Phone Advice

One phone number, 973-263-0066, can be used to contact us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In the evening and overnight, our answering service can leave routine messages for us for appointments and refill requests, and/or help you receive medical advice. This medical advice may be from our triage nurse, who can help most families with most of their concerns, or with the "on call" physician. Please be advised that it has always been our policy for our "on call" physician to be contacted by our answering service if a parent requests this. This is at YOUR discretion -- it is not the decision of the answering service representitive.

After-Hours Appointments and "Urgent Care"

Not all problems that occur after-hours can wait until the next business day, but not all of those problems require the level of attention of a hospital's Emergency Department. However, we have been unhappy with the quality of care from several of the "urgent care" facilities in the community.

As of mid-February 2015, our practice has adjusted our hours of operation to provide more late-appointment availability in our office. We are extending our working hours for both "well" and "sick" visits four weekdays per week. We hope that this will help most of our families find after-hours care with the providers in our practice. At times when non-emergency after-hours care is needed, but our office is closed, we recommend PM Pediatrics in Livingston, as that facility is staffed by pediatricians.

Update: January, 2023

Requesting an appointment for the next business day:  Due to a confluence of many different respiratory virus epidemics over the past few months, our pediatric practice has experienced an extremely large volume of sick-visit requests on a daily basis.  The volume of phone calls and requests for immediate evaluations of sick children has recently been far beyond the means of our practice, or any outpatient medical facility, to address on the same day. While our previous standard practice over the past 4+ decades has been to provide sick-visit appointments to all of our patients on the same day of their request, or sometimes by the next morning, this has simply not been possible recently. If you are interested in a sick-visit appointment for your child as soon as possible, but you call our office after the day's schedule is already full, there is an option we recommend to request an appointment for the next day:  call our office back AFTER 4 PM (when our phones are answered by automated call-director) and choose the option to leave a non-urgent message.  If you leave a voicemail message AFTER 4 PM, your message will be heard by our office staff between 8AM and 9AM the next business day.  The office staff returns these messages between 8:30AM and 9:30AM to offer appointments to those who requested appointments by voicemail message: keep your phone nearby with your ringer "on" during this 8:30AM to 9:30AM time period, so that we can contact you before the next day's schedule is full.
